Hi everyone! Thank you for the overwhelmingly sweet comments on my last post. It's such an amazing feeling to finish a project and have you all to share the results with!
There were a couple questions I wanted to answer!
Missy: The paint color in my kitchen is Tangier Island by Ralph Lauren and the bedroom is Georgian Green by Benjamin Moore.
Ella (love the name!) asked:
I've got a few q's for you. I have a similar stair wall along the banister railing in your 12th picture. Only mine extends the full length of the stairs. space there really needs a face lift. How hard was it to paint the spindles, railing and wall in that tight space? Do you have any tips that make for a nicer finish and easier process there?
That area really was difficult to paint. We definitely didn't do it in a "professional painter" kind of way but it worked. For the wall behind the railing we used one of those long skinny paint rollers.
Picture from Apartment Therapy
The area was tight so we hit the stair rail a few times but that's why we did the wall first. For the back of the railing I took a small paint brush, loaded it with paint and slipped it through the spindles vertically. Then with my other hand I reached around to grab the end of the handle and swiped the paint on as best I could. I'm thinking there has got to be an easier way but we couldn't think of one. If we tried to use a small roller for the semi gloss, it didn't roll and just slid after the first coat. I got up on a ladder after that was done and got what I could from underneath.
If you come over to my house, look up the stairs, turn your head to the left and look closely while squinting, you will see some missed spots between the wall and railing. We did the best we could though!
Completely unrelated now, I've been trying to find a ceiling fan worthy of our master bedroom. Where oh where did you find that simply beautiful ceiling fan?
I purchased the ceiling fan at a local lighting store but I did see it online. Here is the website for the manufacturer Casablanca .
It's good to go and talk to someone about which fans and light kits are compatible. I picked out the light kit I wanted first and then he showed me which fans I could put it on. They call my light kit a 4 - light Victorian fitter, #K44V.
I also wanted to show you my new pillows! I bought them on Etsy from Sa-Sea Boutique . If you haven't been over to her store, check it out! There are some new ones out now that are completely tempting me!
Like this one, how darling is this?!

Such cute pillows! They do really brighten things up!
Great painting tips. We had some issues in our stairwell also because it was so tall. We duct taped a brush to a pole and when we weren't happy with that, we duct taped a tube sock to paint some of it! Oh the fun of old houses!!! Really - not sarcastic!!! :D Jewel
Thank you so very much for the fan info and painting tips!!! The more I look at your transformation pics, the more I'm contemplating fusing the color of our public spaces on our main level (entry, upstairs hall, kitchen, living & dining rooms. I love that feeling of continuation of your living spaces! My DH will be ready to string me up before I'm thru, LOL!
Love your new bright white pillows! Such a perfect summer accent. Wouldn't that lovely bee pillow be perfect with the tutu trim?!!!
Oh, your newly painted rooms look beautiful. I just love that gray-blue color, so pretty.
I just looked through your makeover post... WOW!!!! That is an amazing transformation!!! Everything about it looks great -- love the gray walls with the white trim, the chandelier, the staircase, the artwork... love it all!!
I didn't have time to read through all 67 comments (wow!!), so I don't know if this was already suggested.... I would paint the french doors the same black that you used on your railing. Our hallway is light gray and I painted all the doors a dark chocolate brown. The dark colour makes the doors look richer and more substantial. And in your case, painting the french doors black will tie them in nicely with the black railing.
Fabulous job!!!
Thanks for visiting my post about turquoise. I really like the turquoise chandeliers too :-)

Love those pillows, I like the idea of brightening up a couch with white pillows. Also, really like the keys hanging from your door...neat look.
I have several items that I just bought this weekend at an estate sale that I cannot wait to post about. I'll be doing it soon.
Hi Michelle! I'm waving! :)
I've missed you girl. I feel like I've been on vacation or something with our computer being down and not being able to visit blogs regularly. Ugh!
I've missed so many of your beautiful postings I'll have to come back again and again to soak it all in.

I remember telling you before you really are a designer. :)
It looks like your vacation was wonderful too! You and your Mom look lovely. I see you ate at my favorite place Cracker Barrel. Yum...
