Full Swing

Now that the bedroom is livable, we're on to the living room and hallway. I thought I would show you what we're dealing with over here. All the furniture is piled into the dining room...which means we can't eat in there so we have a table crammed into the kitchen. Now I remember why I wanted that island in the kitchen!

Here is the mess. It's probably crazy for me to show you these horrible pics, I may be delirious from breathing in spackle dust for so long. I'm warning you, it ain't pretty.....but hopefully will be when it's done.

We'll be painting most of this woodwork. Before you beat me with my own paintbrush, let me say that it looks way better in the pics. It's not in great condition and I have zero desire to strip and restain it all. Light and airy is more my thing anyway, so white it is. Don't worry, family and friends have already lectured us plenty!

My son was just dying to show you his "mans" (that's what he calls them). He was trying to get into every shot. Love this kid.

I also love our Sheltie but not what he has done to my door. I had a roman shade on there so we could see the view out during the day but he's jumping all over it. I'm thinking I'll need a full length sheer door curtain to deter him. Darn dog.

SO much spackle dust to clean up.

Maybe I can try and tune the mess out and just look at the pretty view out the door. Ahhh, that's a bit better.

So that is our mess. I can't wait till this part is over. The living room is about half our downstairs so fresh paint will make such a difference. I'm SO tired at this point though. I really just want this over with. It's been constant mess over here for a long time and I'm reaching my breaking point.

Please forgive me if I'm not so great at getting to visit you all and comment this week. We are going to work, work, work and get this done so that we can enjoy the yard and relax this summer! Hopefully I don't scare you off with these "before" pics.

I'll update when I can!

Michelle: We just finished repairing, caulking and painting the upstairs (main) of our house. I can feel your exhaustion. Now to the downstairs and all the stuff we didn't need is down there and must go! I can't face it, either, but must. Best of luck, and it will get done like the other rooms did before this one.

Michelle your staircase is beautiful!
I actually like White trim the best. I think it will look crisp and fresh.
Thanks for showing us your before and afters. It's so inspiring! Your home is looking so pretty and welcoming.
Your son is a little living doll!

Our A/C unit broke upstairs this past week and I am miserable. My allergies are even worse from it if that's possible. Oh well at least it's not July right?
It could be worse for sure.

Thank for coming by and visiting my toppers post. i just adore them and always notice them at stores. I think they add that extra special touch to a room.

Come and check out my six month giveaway this Friday!
Have a wonderful evening.

Michelle the woodwork is going to be so gorgeous painted white. It will lighten up the room so much and just totally change the whole appearance. So crisp and fresh. I can't wait to see the finished room. I just know it will be beautiful. Hugs, Marty

Thanks for sharing. Your rooms have great bones. Love your staircase and newell post. Take lots of pics of your guy with his 'mans' because they grow up so fast. Mine are 10 and 12 now and most days I can hardly believe it. Good luck with all the work ahead and looking forward to seeing pics (please)when it is done.

Michelle - I have commented to you before how I love your decorating skills. Now the odd thing stuck me when viewing your living room makeover...I think our houses have a similiar floor plan. How strange. I live in Ohio and you? We have the same style of woodwork and I would LOVE to paint mine, hubby will not stand for it...and EVERYONE around here agrees with him. I cant wait to see how yours turns out...maybe I can convince him with how nice yours will turn out! :) Are the doors french or pocket and what room do they lead to? We have a "arch" not arch shapped with fret work that leads to our dining room. My living room is the color of your bedroom. My kitchen is NO where as Darling as yours! How strange that I like your style and then see how similiar our houses are in floorplan.

Thanks for letting me view your lovely home. Good luck with the woodwork paining.

I bet you are getting tired with all the dust from your whole house re-do. It is absolutely going to be beautiful though. Just look at the spaces you have already done and how well they have turned out. The view out your back door is wonderful.♥

Hang in there Michelle, everything so far has been so pretty, I would paint the woodwork white too. I like bright and cheery. Take some breaks here and there so you don't just collapse. Cindy

The pictures must be deceiving, because that wood work IS gorgeous.

Considering what you've done with the rest of your home, I'm sure you will make the living room gorgeous.

Looking forward to the after shots.

Yup. I have breathed in my fair share of spackle dust. I am with you on painting the dark woodwork. Let the next owner strip it if they want to. Your little guy with his "mans" is so cute. It's all coming together Michelle. It will be so worth it in the end.

Can't wait to see it all finished! I never have had qualms about painting woodwork! Convincing my hubby, now that's something else.
Be a sweetie and thanks for popping in to see me,

It's going to be gorgeous just like the rest of your house! You're doing a fantastic job...just keep thinking how great it will look when it's done! We doubled the size of our house, doing most of the work ourselves..and it's been 2 years and we're STILL working on it...so I KNOW what you are going through! Just think..the end is near!

You're killing me Michelle.... (whimper) I couldn't even paint the risers on my staircase because it made me cry to think about it (not even kidding you) LOL I know it will look beautiful, but I'm glad I won't have to watch you take the brush to it the first time and I am sooooo not telling Rich. I think he would faint LOLOLOL

Your little boy with his mans is a doll!

I have almost the same staircase as you. We have gone back and forth, the former owners did refinish all the woodwork in our living room dining room area and it looks really beautiful but I truly would love it painted white. So I am with you on this one, I can't wait to hear if it was very difficult or not. The end result will be fantastic. Love the mans!

Hugs,
LeAnn:)

Your home is so pretty and I love what you are doing through out. Your molding will look amazing when it is painted! Your stair case is so charming! :o)

I can't wait to see the end results. I am kind of bummed you are painting the woodwork. We have very similiar houses (my entryway and stairs to 2nd floor look exactly like yours) we haven't touched the woodwork. That is what kind of sold us on the house. I like it but so often dream of all white woodwork. It is def more the style of today and would make everything so much brighter. But my hubby loves the wood and it's all in great shape so it will stay.
Good luck with all the renovations and it will all be worth it in the end!

Oh Michelle, it's such a lovely house - and it's gonna be great when you're all finished, I know it! Aren't projects in old houses fun!?!? LOL! I wish that I could paint my woodwork - atleast upstairs. But alas, Scott says no. Perhaps when I finally get to build that dream house - he won't complain! :)

Well, I'm with you. Paint that woodwork!! Light and airy looks so much better. And your home will still have TONS of character. So proud of you for not backing down, and doing what you want to do with your own home, and not letting anyone talk you into doing what they think should be done. It's gonna be beautiful. Can't wait to see the pics. Have fun!! Beth.
