Monday, Monday

How was your weekend? Ours was relaxing and Monday is starting off the same.

As for the comments on the door...wow! I knew I could count on my fellow bloggers to offer up some great advice! It was great hearing how many people do like the door, it made me feel better for having painted it like that in the first place.

I've decided to do some antiquing to it and then see how I feel about it. It's starting to grow on me already! I'll take some more pics after I get that done and show it to you again. This decorating thing can be such trial and error, and so much fun. Thank you for taking the time to weigh in and help this color confused blogger out.

I found these great corbels (that's what they're called right, corbels?) at an antique store for only $15. My younger daughter went into the store with me while the rest of my family stayed in the car. I'm telling you she would have bought everything in the place. Every time we turned a corner she was saying, "Ooooooo mommy, look at this...." She's like my little antique shopper mini me, my partner in crime.....

I told her she gets to help me decide where to hang them. We're going to put them inside the house somewhere. I'd use them on the porch but that would be....well.....too predictable, right?

And in other news, I have been asked by Cheri at Its So Very Cheri to let you in on a big, no Huge, maybe GINORMOUS is big enough, announcement. Be sure to MARK THIS DATE- Oct 1. All I know, is that you need to head over to Its So Very Cheri on Oct 1 so you don’t miss out on this big event. She’s never done anything this big. So grab the button and place it on your side bar so you don’t forget, plus your friends will be glad you let them in on it too.

Will you be there? I know I will.

Sounded good at the time....

Ever since we finished our Everything Room, I've loved the aqua blue desk. I think it keeps the room from being boring since the rest is on the neutral side.

We knew we wanted to replace our back door. Not only was it ugly but it was beginning to rot at the bottom and we could see light through.

So we installed this beautiful 10 light wood door and then I painted it blue to match the computer desk I loved so much. So.....what do you think? I think I hate it.....

My goal was to bring in another touch of the aqua but it seems too much. I antiqued the desk but not the door. So I'm wondering if I should try that and see if I'm happier with it. As of right now I'm thisclose to taking some white semi-gloss to it.

Give me your honest opinions, I can take it. Right now I'm ready to file this under "Sounded like a good idea at the time but turned into a decorating disaster" folder.

Big Days

This month was important in our little family. Not only did our youngest turn 4 years old....

...he also went to school for the first time ever. My only boy, the baby, the last child we will have, my heart.....is now spending time away from home. Okay, so it's only for a couple hours but still, it's hard to see him taking that step.

He, on the other hand, is handling it perfectly. He's so excited to go to school and that makes it sting a little less for his mama.

Today we pulled up to his preschool and as I took him out of his car seat he said to me, "I missed you last time when I was at this place." I think my heart did a complete flip flop. As parents we live for those moments, the rare times when they share their feelings like a grown up would.

I wonder if he was letting me know that hey, even though I'm having fun, I still think about you.

Just another reminder of how big he's getting, how the time continues to go so fast.

Some days I wish I could bottle it up.

The Stone House

Near the campground we go to there is a trail that leads to a beautiful old house. I've been intrigued by this house from the moment I saw it. Recently a preservation society took over the property and has began cleaning it up. I was thrilled to go to their website and see the first two photos you see below. As you can see by my pictures that follow, changes have already been made. Unfortunately the website does not say what they plan to do with the site. I'll keep you posted!

Here's what the website says about it:

"Acquired in December of 2008, Fieldstone Farm is a 52-acre property. The land is a mix of woodlands and fallow fields, with Tank Creek flowing along the northern boundary of the property. The property also has two freshwater ponds and numerous hillside springs and wetland areas. The remains of a picturesque old stone house that burned down in the 1960's can be found in the northern part of the property.

Property records indicate that a Carl Tielenius owned the property in the late 1800's to the early 1900’s. We believe that Carl Tielenius built the house on the property for his daughter in the early 1900’s. The stone house and was built using slipform masonry construction. Slipforming is an old style of masonry, resulting in a random appearance, without the uniform joints or sharp, clean lines of most modem masonry."

You can read more about it here:

These are my photos:

See the heart?

I can just imagine standing at this window, the breeze blowing in from the trees....

Such an amazing fireplace...

There are stone walls all around the property but it was difficult to get pictures since they are all overgrown....

A path behind the house...

I only hope the house is restored to its original beauty. It would be wonderful to see them do something special with it. She certainly deserves care after all these years.

Goings On....

It was a busy end of summer over here....getting our new camper set up, preparing for back to school and then I got hit with a nasty ear infection. It's never boring around here, that's for sure.

I tried to get some super cute pictures before the first day of school by the flowers and porch. You can see how that went.....

How's that sunshine today kids??

Oh well, at least it was a nice day out even if I didn't get the "perfect" back to school pic.

In other news, this little boy is 4 today! I know us moms are always asking where the time goes but really....tell me where it went?! Next week he starts preschool, I'm bracing myself for that day. I should go and stock up on tissues now.

Happy Birthday to my silly boy....

I've been a bit uninspired here recently. We started a couple little home projects while my husband was on vacation but they aren't even finished yet. *sigh* I've been in a decorating slump but I'm feeling it start to lift. Now that school is back and we're in a routine again, the "To Do" list is forming in my head.

Fall is my favorite time of year and I plan on making good use of it! I hope to have some completed projects to show you soon.
