The After

Hi again! Two posts in one day, that might be a record for me.
I wanted to show you all my finished projects that I shared with you here on this Before post.

The plan was to show you last week but yikes, things just got so busy. My son was sick for a few days and the whirlwind of summer began. Swimming, camping, fighting siblings....yup, we have it all over here.

So onto The Afters!

First I painted the table base to see how I liked that. I thought maybe I could leave the top alone. Here's a pic which you can see was taken after I started sanding it. I needed it all to be white so the top was painted as well......

Here is the table now, what do you think? Better?

Oh and did I mention that my hubby totally threw me under the bus with this one?

It went something like this:

Ron: "I just want you to know I had nothing to do with this...at all. I didn't know she was painting it....I came home from work and she was under the table with a PAINTBRUSH. I had NO idea, I swear!!!!!!"

Me: "Umm, thanks."

Dad: *grimace*

Ron: "I TOLD her not to paint it. I TOLD her you would be upset. It wasn't my idea."

Dad: *grimace*

Me: "Seriously guys. It's a TABLE for crying out loud."

Ten years of marriage and my hubby is still scared of my dad. Go figure!

Hmmmm....do I paint the chairs too or leave them alone??

Then we have the dresser which had been painted in a deep red. I love how the details come out with it being all white now.

I brought out all my shells to make it feel a bit beachy in here....

And of course, the mantel. I'm still trying to figure out if I like it plain white or if I'd like to antique it a bit. Planning on leaving it alone for a while and see how it goes....

I realize it's June but seriously, I can't wait to decorate this for the Fall. I'm already dreaming of pumpkins.

I also wanted to update you on my sons room. The star quilt was added, as well as a shelf above his bed and the maps I was waiting on. He loves his room but still asks to sleep with us every.single.night. Oh well, I'm just glad he's a cuddly kid. Before you know it, he'll be trying to wriggle away from me as I'm hugging him.

You can see the original post on his room Here .

And with that, I'm leaving you for the weekend. My mom and I are off for our 2nd annual girls weekend in Lancaster, Pa for shopping, shopping and shopping. I can't wait to see what treasures are waiting for us.

My hubby will be here with the 3 kids and 2 dogs to care for while I'm gone. I just hope the kids are all behaved while I'm gone or our "annual" girls weekend will turn into "Hey, remember those two times we went away and then we were banned from leaving the county ever again?"

I hope you are having a beautiful summer so far! I'll catch up with you all when I return next week.

P.S. ~ Say a little prayer that my hubby remembers to water my flowers (fingers crossed).

I'm linking this up to Transformation Thursday at The Shabby Chic Cottage. Lots of great fun over there!!

Hi Michelle, all of your projects look great! I am so pleased about the table painting as I would like to do the same, so your post has been most helpful. I think though that the chairs do need to be painted. Maybe you could also put a lovely fabric on the seats? I can't really tell what you currently have... Very impresssed.

The table looks gorgeous and your dad will get over it. Right?
I hope so :)
Your mantle is going to be so fun to decorate during the holidays. I love how you've stacked the frames on it! Beautiful!

Love the new look of the table. I am a paint it ALL. I think the chairs would look better white too. The rooms are looking awesome.
I have to tell you that I am visiting my girlfriend in PA this weekend, GIRL TIME. There is a antique extravaganza going on, Schrupps grove, I think I spelled it wrong. We have been doing this show for the last three years and I have always managed to find some good WHITES. Have fun shopping with your mom.

I love how the table turned out. The room looks great! You have a real talent! I think the chairs should be...black maybe?
Have fun on your shopping trip. I am jealous!

Hee hee!! If your scared, say your scared!! Makes me laugh! I think men in general have a problem with wood being painted. Something in their genes! The table came out just awesome. I think I like the contrast of the wood chairs. Some fabric cushions might add a little more color. Awesome job on everything!

Kim@Chattafabulous said...

Absolutely love the white table! Thought about doing this a while back but chickened out because the wood was so perfect! Everything looks great and I love the contrast of the white table and wood chairs!

Hi Michelle, I love the table painted white and I would paint the chairs. The dresser looks so pretty and I love all the details like the starfish, perfect! Your sons room is so perfectly boy and the banner looks so cute in there! The fireplace will be great for the holidays and when I saw it I thought that your tin panels would look good inside it (; Have fun on your vaca!

paint the chairs too! The table looks so good.
I really like your son's room, it is very classic for a little boy, not a theme. I like the low shelf and storage for the toys

Wow, you've been busy! All of your projects turned out SO PRETTY! The table looks perfect in white - good decision. I would definately paint the chairs and put a pretty fabric on the seats. We have the same thing here - I have my parents dining room set in dark wood. I love the shape but also want to paint it. My husband is appalled that I want to paint it white! I try explaining to everyone that it will be the same table with the same memories just a different color. I haven't done it yet but after seeing yours...watch for the post! :)
Love your mantle also - I also have a mantle that I put up with no actual fireplace. It's my favorite place to decorate. Yours is definately charming with the most perfect accessories on top.

I must ask...where did you get the large world map in your son's room? I LOVE it and have been looking for one like that forever. You know when you want something and just can't find it to save your life - that's me and the map.

Have fun on your trip. My mother lives in Lancaster - great shopping there!

Sarah :)

Hi Michelle,
I love seeing your projects. About the table and chairs...have you considered painting the chairs an icy gray/blue?? I think that would be such a great Scandinavian look!

Your son's room is adorable!

Have fun with your mom, hope you find great treasures.

Wow,everything look s wonderful! The dresser is especially gorgeous!

Can you give advice on how you painted your table? Type of paint used, brushes used, etc? I am planning to paint mine and would welcome any and all advice. :)

Wow! Everything looks soooo good! I love the white table! I think I'd go with painting the chairs a complimenting color - a light teal, red, you know, something a little unexpected.
Your son's room looks awesome!!! I love the inspiration!

Hahahaha, is so funny you should post about your table painting. My mother passed my childhood dining table on to me and Im just itching to paint it. I know she is going to just die when she sees what "ive done to it".

Michelle-
I love, love, love all of your finished projects! The table turned out great! Not sure if you should paint the chairs or not. I love the contrast with the table. Plus, it isn't matchy matchy. I just got done painting my dining room chairs mismatched colors. I love how it turned out. It's fun! Maybe if you do paint the chairs, you could paint them a color that it is different from the table, so you still have contrast there.
Your son's room is so cute! I bet he just loves it! He is lucky to have such a talented mommy. :)
Hope you and your family are having a fantastic summer!
Beth.

I love the painted table! I have a similar set and did the chairs. I've never regretted it! I say paint them!
I had to laugh at your husbands healthy fear of your father, I don't think we ever loose that!

Hi Michelle.
You're thinking about repainting your dining room? What colors are you considering? I really like the blue on your dining room walls. The blue and white is so lovely together. Having a color on the wall does make it harder to be creative with other colors in the room, though. You have to worry about what goes with the wall color. I've got a light beige on my dining room wall, and it can be hard to match colors to it. I'm betting someday that I will paint all of my walls white. I used to think that white walls were boring, but as I see more rooms that are painted white, I like it more and more. So I guess I would go with white. Have you seen the cottage that Layla from Lettered Cottage worked on recently? The Screened Inn? I love the mix of plain white walls with splashes of vintage colors in the rooms. It's so much fun. And has that vintage farmhouse look.
Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure it will be terrific! Your dining room is so beautiful already. But I do know how you feel. I am constantly wanting to change things around here. I just get something "finished", then I want to change it again. LOL. Let me know what you decide. I can't wait!! :)
Beth.

I hope you'll be flattered not scared out of your mind when you look at my blog and see some of your ideas. I have flags in my girls' room too, I used 1920s replicate flour sack material. And I'm totally stealing your idea of rolled up piano music in the pitcher. Brilliant. Sign me up as a new follower, o.k. I'll sign myself up.

One other thing, you should paint the seats of the chairs white and then do a big, fat, black number on it. I hear that looks pretty awesome...

Fabulous in every way!!

Hey! Great job on the table! I'd paint the chairs as well only not exactly the same. Maybe a white-wash. Just to make it not matchy-matchy! Love your style!

Your table looks fantastic!! I'm not sure I would paint the chairs just yet...maybe just live with them for awhile. I'm indecisive like that! lol! And I love the dresser you did. Not only the pretty paint job, but how you accessorized the top. I LOVE starfish, they look good anywhere! The banner is really cute, too!

Love your son's room. I like the storage area you created, the little metal buckets are SO cute and a nice idea.

Have fun on your girls trip. I miss my mom and all the things we did together. You sound just like me...who will remember to water my flowers!! ;-D

I love your vignettes. I love your son's room. The dining table looks really really good! For the chairs...what about painting them black? They would tie in with the chandelier and offer a dramatic touch to the room. What do you think?

Hello Michelle! What a beautiful transformation of your dining room table, I think that you should not paint the chairs...yet, wait a little bit longer, until you want to do another overhaul of this room. I absolutely LOVED the dresser renovation, with the beachy touches! And your son's room is also very cool with the map theme. Hope you have a great getaway and I will be crossing my fingers to for the care of your flowers ;) thanks for sharing!
