The one that got away

Did you ever pass something up at the flea market, antique store or at a garage sale....and then had regrets?

For me it was a scale like the one above only older and chippier *sigh*. It was love at first sight and $40. I lingered at it for a while and eventually walked away due to cranky kids and a hungry hubby. I've been kicking myself ever since! The hunt is on to find another like it, one of these days I'll come across the perfect one and it will be mine.

Tell me about your one that got away.

Ohh to many to say. But that's ok, I have learn lessons from walking away and having regrets. I think harder and go with my heart more. You will find another and your heart will beat so heard. Remember, it's the fun of the hunt.

Girl I found a pie cabinet from an old bakery and wanted it so bad...it was all oak and even turned around...well I walked away and about 20 minute later went back to buy it and it was sold...I just knew in my gut I should had gotten it right then and there but stupid me had to think on it...and guess what I have never seen another one like it since sighs...that was over 15 years ago and I'm still on the look out for another one ha ha!! let your gut tell you girl...most of the people I deal with in antiques will even take lay away for me...I still have stuff on lay away even as I type this...I will look on my many travels for your scale and see what I can find for you...pluse I have a friend that sell them at his shop...Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

Michelle, A couple of months ago I saw an old sled at an estate sale. Mr. S saw it too but didn't think he'd like seeing the family name on it. It was only $7 because it was the last day of the sale. These things sell for about $50 at antique stores! Why did I listen to him? I have NEVER listened to him before! I could have painted the wood. duh.... I was too involved buying my other stuff, I guess. I went back to the sale an hour later, but it was gone! boo hoo...
So I know your pain, toots! Now, I just buy it all. If I change my mind later, I know I can sell it at one of my sales. :-)
That would have been a great purchase for you, BTW. But you already know that! *grin*

GRR, I know exactly how you feel! I passed by a box full of old colored glass buoys at an antique store when I was visiting family out of state. I thought they were beautiful but didn't know what I would do with them. Now that I decided I want to do a 1920s bathing beauty/beach motif guest bath, I REALLY WISH I HAD THE BUOYS. To gather in a basket, hang above the mirror.... I live hundreds of miles away and haven't found any like that since. Stinky me.

Too many to list for me! There is one that I hope is still at my local Antique Mall. Last time I was in there I found a tall RED beautiful cabinet that I really wanted:) It was priced a bit too high for my purse... I have decided after Christmas perhaps they need a little cash. I am going back to see if it is still there. Have a blessed day!

I fell in love with these beautiful french end tables on a shopping trip out in my mother in laws town. I decided ultimately that I would save my money for something else. I called her a few days later to see if she would go and get them for me, because I kept thinking about them and decided I had to have them. She went back, and they were gone!! I was so disappointed, until I found out they were gone because SHE BOUGHT THEM FOR ME!!! I was blown away with excitement!!!

I saw this drop dead gorgeous armoire at a flea market for only 75 dollars but my hubby didn't feel like loading it up that day.
Went back the next week and it was gone. I still get teary eyed when I think about it and dear hubby never complains about loading anything up for me anymore!

Oh my goodness...I love that scale! I've been wanting one FOREVER!

When I was pregnant with our daughter, I found this awesome vintage rocking horse at an antique shop. I had been eyeing it for quite awhile. One day I had the $ to get it, but alas, when I went to get it...it.was.gone...I was beyond disappointed. SO, I feel your pain. :) Happy weekend!

Rachel

Michelle,

Love that scale, too!
My item that got away was an old cookie jar ~apples in a basket. I meant to buy it from My Church's Thrift store, since it was in perfect condition and only $3. I am into some vintage stuff and this one was soooo vintage, not ugly either. I am on the look out for another one that is a large strawberry...too bad my kitchen is not vintage, too!
It was designed by my husband so it has granite and stainless steel appliances. I would love beadboard and white appliances, too.
I can still collect vintage things I love for the next house!
Thanks, JolieAnne

My "one that got away" was a house, a beautiful 3-story turreted Victorian with pocket doors and original wood floors and wood trim, 6 huge bedrooms and twin parlors off the foyer, all for $75,000. I went through it twice with the realtor but could not buy it because it was in an undesirable school district and I had 3 kids in school. The youngest will now graduate in June, and still I've never stopped thinking about that house!

I know how you feel. I have had a few things that I missed out on because of fussy kids or hungry hubby...or no cash in the wallet. I hope you find your scale soon. I love it! If I should come across one I will pass it on to you~

It happens... But there will be others - and perhaps the next one that steals your heart will be cheaper, you know? Sometimes, things happen for a reason. It was a beauty, but I'm certain you'll find another one - you'll see.

I am a lover of scales as well. Mmm...the one that got away for me? There have been a lot. Most recently there was a set of bakelite forks at an auction and I didn't make it there in time to bid on them. They went for practically nothing.
