So the lion fell in love with the lamb....

When I mentioned in a previous post that I was reading the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, I had a few comments and emails asking for a review. Well, I'll keep it short and simple.....absolutely loved it. Yes it is written for young adults but I think anyone of any age will enjoy the story. There is such emotion that comes through in her writing, yet it doesn't become annoyingly descriptive if that makes any sense. If you look online you will find tons of fan sites and you will also find a lot of negativity. Especially when people who are into Harry Potter start talking, watch out. Now, I can't comment with any type of comparison as I have no desire to read Harry Potter *ducking and running* but I gathered from the criticism that the writing styles just cannot be compared. I look at it this way, we are all fans of something and will jump to defend it. It's wonderful to me that there are teens out there willing to defend books. As long as they are reading, it's all good!

It took me 6 days to read all 4 books in this series and I was still wanting more. Luckily I ended up with a stomach virus and stuck inside from a snowstorm while I was reading these. I say luckily because that meant my husband was home from work so the kids were fed. *phew*

You can check out the author's website here: http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/twilight.html

On it she has the rough draft of Midnight Sun (the rumored 5th book) and the story of why it is incomplete. Even though the conversations are repeats, it's interesting to go back to the beginning from Edward's point of view and makes you understand his torment so much better.

So that is my humble take on it. I won't be crazy enough to jump into the madness that will be opening night of Eclipse but you will definitely find me at the theater that week, during the day.....while all the teenagers are at the pool.

Hello! You beat me. I read all 4 plus the "5th" in 8 days! I was on the couch with morning sickness though!

Love, love, love the series!

I loved, Loved, LOVED Twilight AND Harry Potter. That being said, they are totally different.

On the Harry Potter/Twilight comparison, my sister said this: "Let's face it: Stephanie Meyer is no J.K. Rowling. And J.K. Rowling is no Jane Austen."

Well said, sister. Well said.

I too LOVED the Twilight series and read through the books VERY quickly. I think it is a GREAT love story!

Oh, you might try Stephenie Meyer's other book called The Host. Now if you read it let me warn you, it takes 3 or 4 chapters to get going....but if you can make it through to that point, you won't be able to put it down. Just letting you know.........♥

My daughters got me hooked on Twilight, so I knew how addicting the books could be. But I was really shocked at how I could not put them down!!!! I had to wait for months for the 4th book to come out and it was torture!

The writing is not the best literature ever, but her story-telling is so powerful and well, addicting (I keep using that word - but it fits!), that you don't notice the flaws. And what is more important, story or grammar? I'll take a great story any day.

I loved the Harry Potter books also, but not with the all-consuming passion I had for the Twilight books.

I second THE HOST. It was a great read! And I really hope she reconsiders and finishes the 5th book.

Haven't read these yet, but I'm intrigued. They'll have to go on my summer reading list.

Oh, boy, I got totally sucked into those books last year and lost a month or two of my life to them. Ha. The only one I didn't like was Breaking Dawn (the last in the series). It was so bad that it actually made me question why I had liked the four that came before it. My favorite was the first!

I read the first book and I'm looking forward to reading the others. I just wish I had more time to read. Well... that's one good thing about being sick with the stomach flu.
